Culture of Corruption: Obama and the Teamsters
October 24, 2008 06:39 PM EST
by Jim Kouri - Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa will be visiting Teamster worksites around the Philadelphia area on October 27-28 to help get out the vote for Sen. Barack Obama in this crucial presidential election, according to a press statement from the union's press office.
Hoffa will meet with members at their job sites, discussing important issues affecting their lives and their families, including the country's financial crisis, the job-killing trade policies backed by Sen. John McCain, the failing Bush-McCain economy and affordable health care.
Hoffa is the son of Teamsters honcho Jimmy Hoffa whose connections with organized crime are believed to have led to his disappearance.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that last summer, Illinois Senator Barack Obama told officials in the Teamsters union that he favored ending the Independent Review Board (IRB) that was created in 1989 by the federal government to rid the union of organized crime.
Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for Obama, confirmed the story, saying that the candidate believed that the IRB had "run its course" because "organized crime influence in the union has drastically declined."
The Teamsters subsequently endorsed Obama for president, in late February.
Obama and the Teamsters bristled at suggestions that any deal was made.
The Obama campaign also circulated a tape of a speech that Senator Hillary Clinton made last March to the Teamsters saying "at some point the past has to be opened," but Clinton's statement, like those made by Senator John Kerry in 2004, stopped well short of committing her to end oversight of the Teamsters.
"So what do you expect from a Chicago politician," quips former NYPD detective Mike Snipes who investigated organized crime in the 1970s.
"Obama wants to use the Teamsters as his foot-soldiers to get out the vote. The Teamsters want Obama to call off the watchdogs so they can return to their cozy relationship with organized crime," said the decorated detective.
History of Rewarding ACORN

Election 2008
by Jim Kouri - Between ACORN and the Democrat National Committee we are truly witnessing a culture of corruption. Remember the Marxist adage: Accuse others of what you do. This is the M.O. of the Democrats and their lapdogs in the news media.
While they accuse the GOP of "disenfranchising" voters, it is the liberal-left thugs who are disenfranchising citizens by registering illegal aliens and corpses to vote.
Meanwhile, conservative groups are on the alert in order to prevent military voters from being disenfranchised since polls regularly show soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines overwhelmingly vote for Republican candidates.
Long before Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac needed a taxpayer-funded bailout this summer, Congressional Democrats began pushing an "affordable housing trust fund." A priority of Democrat leaders, it was created to benefit some of their biggest political allies, including groups like the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).
Instead of taking action to reign in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who played a central role in the nation's housing crisis, Democrats chose instead to add new liabilities to the economy and enable their ACORN friends, according to a top Republican in the House of Representatives.
Stories have come out across the country chronicling disturbing voter-fraud activities perpetrated by ACORN, leading to an FBI investigation after House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.), and Republican congressmen Tom Cole (Okla.), Dean Heller (Nev.), Candice Miller (Mich.), and Ranking Members Vern Ehlers (Mich.) and Lamar Smith (Texas) requested a complete investigation by the Department of Justice.
Yesterday, the New York Times reported that ACORN's activities "...may have led to violations of federal laws... potentially improper use of charitable dollars for political purposes; money transfers among the affiliates; and potential conflicts created by employees working for multiple affiliates..."
And while Republicans sought to limit taxpayer support for this politically-motivated group, Democrats continued to reward them. Since 1998, ACORN has received at least $31 million from taxpayers. But ACORN hasn't just tried to register Mickey Mouse to vote, they've also played a key role in creating the lending environment that has caused today's economic crisis.
Despite all of this, Democrats added their misguided ACORN slush fund to the Fannie/Freddie bailout that passed the Democrat Congress this summer. And when Congress considered the emergency financial rescue package in September, Democrats once again tried to reward their troubled and legally-challenged ally, this time with a 20 percent taxpayer kick-back. Their record could not be clearer...
October 26, 2005: The U.S. House of Representatives votes on an amendment to sunset the Democrat-proposed ACORN slush fund after five years (Roll Call 541).
208 Republican vote YES
191 Democrats vote NO (only 2 Democrats vote yes)
May 22, 2007: The U.S. House of Representatives votes on an amendment to strip the ACORN slush fund from a housing reform bill (Roll Call 392).
155 Republicans vote YES
224 Democrats vote NO
May 8, 2008: The U.S. House of Representatives votes on a motion to prohibit the ACORN slush fund from benefiting convicted drug dealers, sex offenders, or mortgage fraud perpetrators (Roll Call 298).
196 Republicans vote YES
215 Democrats vote NO
July 23, 2008: The U.S. House of Representatives votes to officially create the ACORN slush fund, permanently writing it into law (Roll Call 519).
149 Republicans vote NO
227 Democrats vote YES (only 3 Democrats vote no)
September, 2008: Congressional Democrats insert a provision into the emergency financial rescue package to kick-back 20% of taxpayer revenue to the newly created ACORN slush fund.
It took all weekend for Republican negotiators to successfully remove this provision from the the bailout bill.
